HEC announces ranking of Pakistan Universities 2013

Islamabad, Higher Education Commission Pakistan announced ranking of Pakistani universities 2013 on the basis of quality, education and research.

According to HEC ranking on large scale general universities, National University of Science and Technology NUST Islamabad and in medium scale Quaid-e-Azam University Islamabad got first position.

In engineering and technology sector universities, there are three universities which got first position and that universities are; Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences Islamabad, University of Engineering and Technology UET Lahore and Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering and Technology Swabi.

Lahore University of Management Sciences LUMS, Institute of Business Administration IBA Karachi and Institute of Business Administration IBA Sukkur got first position in business education sector universities.

In medicine sector universities, three universities top the position which is namely Aga Khan University Karachi, University of Health Sciences UHS Lahore and DOW University of Health Sciences Karachi.

University of Agriculture Faisalabad and Pir Mehar Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University is top position holder in agriculture and veterinary sector.

Addressing to the press conference here in Friday Chairperson HEC Dr. Javaid R. Laghari said the main purpose of ranking is to promote the education in Pakistan worldwide. He said this will bring quality of education in Pakistan by various aspects. Ranking is one of the best ways to standardized education among universities. It will provide universities to create an environment as competition and they will more improve their standard of education in institutes.

Recently Pakistani universities got top position among world universities and this is the result of regular ranking by HEC. These type of activities also promote them to participate in education race at international level. Executive Director HEC Professor Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed and all top rank universities vice chancellors were also present there. Implementation status of quality assurance criteria, teaching quality and research are three main bases of ranking criteria.

Allama Iqbal Open University AIOU and Virtual University which are providing distance learning education to Pakistani students are excluded from ranking list since 2008 and current ranking is bases on 2011-12 universities ranking data. As there are so many problems in education in Pakistan but HEC got this status that it is the organization that got status to announce the ranking of universities in Islamic world.

In agriculture and veterinary category there are five universities; University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Pir Mehar Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore, University of Agriculture Peshawar, Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam and Lasbela University of Agriculture Water and Marine Sciences.

In engineering and technology category five universities are; Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences Islamabad, University of Engineering and Technology UET Lahore, Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering and Technology Swabi, Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Jamshoro and Institute of Space Technology Islamabad.

In business category five universities which got top position are; Lahore University of Management Science LUMS, Institute of Business Administration IBA Karachi, Institute of Business Administration IBA Sukkur, Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology (SZABIST) Karachi and Institute of Management Sciences IMS Peshawar.
Aga Khan University Karachi, University of Health Sciences UHS Lahore, DOW University of Health Science Karachi, Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences Jamshoro, Khyber Medical College University Peshawar and King Edward Medical University Lahore are top six in medicine category ranking list.

In general large ranking universities list are; National University of Sciences and Technology NUST Islamabad‚ University of the Punjab Lahore‚ University of Karachi‚ COMSATS Institute of Information Technology Islamabad‚ Government College University GCU Faisalabad‚ University of Peshawar‚ Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur and The Islamia University of Bahawalpur.

Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad‚ Government College University GCU Lahore‚ National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences NUCES Islamabad‚ Fatima Jinnah Women University FJWU Rawalpindi‚ Gomal University Dera Ismail Khan and University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Muzaffarabad are in general medium ranking list.

And in the last in general small ranking of universities are; University of Faisalabad‚ Beaconhouse National University BNU Lahore‚ Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) Islamabad‚ University of Science and Technology Bannu‚ Isra University Hyderabad and Foundation University Islamabad.
